Alchemy used to be a bunch of medieval scientists trying to figure out how to make Gold. Clearly, they never figured it out.
Today, "alchemy" is just the energetic result of elements being combined. It's the way the forces of the world combine. A group of people can come together and change the energy of a room or situation, a nice compliment can change the alchemy of your day, and adding crystals and burning herbs to an incantation can add weight to it and bring it to life.
There is an energy that runs through the world and everything in it. We can meet someone completely new and feel like we've known them for years. We can often sense when something is wrong, like if you were to walk into a room and someone had just been talking about you. This is how our intuition works - like a radio receiver for vibes. These vibes are just the energy between a person, and there are many names for it - but I call it Alchemy. It's the same thing we can use to tune in and manifest our destiny. I believe it's how psychics have their gift - they're able to read the alchemy clearly and tell past, future, and present.
Everyone has some level of connectedness with the alchemy. There are some people who reject it, but that can only be done with toxicity. Heavy sugar and alcohol intake, hard drugs, or maybe just stewing in negativity. But we are all connected to this force, just like we're all connected to each other. Even those that feel alienated from society are connected to the alchemy - even if they do not feel they fit the mold. The feeling that they do not belong is a misinterpretation of the alchemy, looking too far into one's own mind rather than into the mystical ether and the depths of their spirit.
I have personally practiced some form of witchcraft since my early teen years. I have admittedly had frequent stints of atheism in my day. But then when I really look at my life, I am unable to deny the magick that is around me and I generally come back to the right side.
To be honest - these words, "magick" and "witchcraft", make me cringe a bit. There's awkward stigma attached to these words, and even though that is what it is - I would still rather call it something else. So I often use terms like "woo-woo" or "mojo" - or I just try to call it Alchemy. In any case - I consider concepts like these, and things like religious ceremonies, meditative manifestation, etc. all to be part of the same family of craft. Some are done just with your mind (like meditation and astral travel) and some are done with tools and accessories (those aforementioned religious ceremonies, or casting witchy spells). This is where Alchemy comes in - it is the result of the combination of all present elements. So If you're a Catholic priest, you're using crackers and wine to simulate the body and blood of Christ while incanting at your followers. If we are casting a spell, you may want to use your herbs, your special Athame, a cauldron, some oils, crystals, etc. to spice up the mix. All of these things lend their frequencies and energies to your cause when you invoke them. It changes the shape of your manifestation, and adds weight. But the core of the manifestation is intention and thought - these things just make the thought more tangible.
Every item vibrates at a different frequency, and resonates different energy. These energies come together to create a new energy, and can lend their energies to your intentions. ThisIf you are really attuned, you can probably feel the energy shift with each addition of a new element. Sort of like when you're in a group of people and someone else walks up - sometimes the conversation shifts. This is the alchemy of the conversation absorbing a new element, and that new element interacting with the others. Try to concentrate next time you're in a group of people, and try to tune into how each of there energies is different. You don't need to really read it (I mean, hey - if you can, awesome for you!) just notice that it is different and unique from the other people around you.
Alchemy isn't just about the elements themselves, but the relationships between the elements. How will they compliment each other and produce my desired result? You will notice as you move through your craft that certain elements enjoy being together and others do not. For example: I find my loose Silver Sage is often a bit less interested in burning with my resins, and more interested in burning with other plant matter. Alchemy continues to build over time, which is one of the reasons we've started the Master Spell. We want to take the successful alchemy and repurpose it into new spells and new magick.
So the next time you feel super hokey standing over a fire shouting "I AM THE GREAT AND POWERFUL SORCERER OF THE STARS!" at the night sky, just think of Catholic priests standing at the altar of a church incanting with the congregation and offering communion. Think of how normal that is to people, and then stop worrying, because you're basically doing the same dang thing.
